Partial dentures are one of the common cosmetic dental treatment options when a patient requires treatment for a tooth or one area. To achieve outstanding aesthetic dental results, the dentist has to collaborate with a certified dental laboratory when fabricating removable partial dentures. Even though each patient’s case is different and there are various types of partial dentures, a partial denture process usually involves multiple appointments and waiting periods. Here is a step-by-step process to create the best removable partial dentures

  • Taking an initial and accurate dental impression: Taking an accurate impression and a correct bite is the first and one of the most important steps in making partial dentures. The dentist needs to provide a full dental assessment to the patient in order to identify any issues within the arch of their teeth. To create an accurate impression of your patient’s mouth you need to pour high-quality gypsum stone.
  • Bite examination: After obtaining an accurate impression of the patient’s mouth, it is necessary to examine the models for tooth contact points and make any necessary adjustments. Prepare the natural tooth surface where the occlusal rests will be inserted to support the prostheses before proceeding. If space is limited, it may be necessary to slightly separate opposing teeth.
  • Mark the height of the patient’s teeth: Using a dental surveyor, you should now make a mark on the height and contour of the patient’s teeth that will be incorporated into the design. If you do this, you will be able to identify any insertion issues and address them right away.
  • Consider clasp design and flex it: When considering the patient’s denture design, you have to use the most efficient and appropriate clasp design. You can also use flexible clasps that are tooth-colored to provide your patient with better dental aesthetic results.
  • Finishing touches on the design: It is important to perform an analysis of the patient’s bite using the denture design before moving on to the last step of processing and finishing. As soon as the finished result is complete, you can place the partial dentures into the patient’s mouth and conduct an examination to check that the bite is appropriate and that the dentures have an aesthetically attractive appearance.
